This DVD looks at the needs of the service user in a care environment and the care which needs to be provided by an establishment and its staff. A better understanding of the needs of service users will improve the care skills of carers as well as satisfaction in their own work. The following subjects are examined: older people and the ageing population; personal care, including care for service users with varying degrees of disability and from different cultural backgrounds; continence care, medication and medical problems; unpredictable moods and behaviours; confusion and dementia; support for service users in the event of death and bereavement; how to deal with self neglect and mental health issues.

The CD-ROM also contains Question and Answer sheets a Trainer's Guide and other supporting materials, all designed to help trainers prepare and run an effective training session.
