Troubleshooting Guide

This section will help you fix some common problems associated with video recorders, playing video tapes, DVDs and accessing files on CD-ROMs.

The DVD seems to skip or is faulty.

If the DVD seems to skip or appears faulty, please initially try it in another DVD player.  If it works, please ensure that the heads on the original DVD player have been cleaned.  This can be done using a special "head-cleaning" disc.
If the disc does not work on another player, please contact our Customer Services Team on 0845 644 2866 who will arrange a replacement disc.  Please note that there may be a charge for the replacement DVD - please consult your terms and conditions or customer services.

The PDF files on the CD-ROM are not accessible.

Make sure you have Adobe Acrobat on your PC.  You can download it at www.adobe.com or alternatively you can click on the adobe icon on your CD-ROM and this will take you through the downloading process.

What do I do if a tape starts to falter or make a noise during playback?

Use a Video head cleaner to clean inside of the video recorder. If this does not work then please contact our Customer Service Team. There may be a charge for the replacement - please consult your Terms and Conditions.

What do I do if a tape stops playing or pauses itself?

Rewind and fast forward the tape a few times to loosen the tape. If this does not work then please contact our Customer Service Team. There may be a charge for the replacement - please consult your Terms and Conditions.

When playing a video, the picture quality is below standard.

First of all, check that all leads are firmly in their sockets.  Next, try adjusting the tracking of the video recorder.  Have you tried the video in another VHS player? If the problem still occurs then please send it back to us for a replacement (see returns).  If the video plays fine in another player, we suggest cleaning the playing heads of the original player.  You can buy a head cleaning tape at most supermarkets, electrical goods stores and general stores.
